This month Abby Vegkley was named teacher of the month. Vegkley teaches freshman and sophomore English. She is also the UIL Literary Criticism coach. This is her first year as a teacher at West Oso High School, however, she did participate in our “Grown Your Own” program last school year.
“She has proven to be genuine, considerate and dependable. Ms. Vegkley has the premier classroom setup for virtual instruction and meaningful dialogue with her students. She meets the criteria of excellence in the classroom, motivating, creative and imaginative. Ms. Vegkley is dedicated and has built strong relationships with her students,” Principal Terry Avery stated.
As for Vegkley’s next steps, she plans on working toward her master’s degree and becoming a counselor.
“As a first year teacher in the middle of a pandemic it makes me happy to be doing what I am passionate about,” says Vegkley.
