Boy’s 4×400 Peaking At The Right Time

The Bears 4 x 400 relay tema of AJ Lopez, Terrell Mozzell, Thomas Mozzell, and lone senior track team member Jalen James ran their best time of the year in Pt. Lava’s district meet. The third place finish means this team has qualified for the Area Meet.

It all started at Bear Stadium during the home meet in the  Bear relays.  Jalen James, 12,  Thomas Mozzell, 11, Terrell Mozzell, 11, AJ Lopez, 11, and Rayshawn Nickles, 11,  competed for the first time together in the  4×400 relay event.

These 5 have  made it to the Area Track meet after a grueling regular season, by qualifying during the 26-AAA District Meet.   The Area Meet will be  held at Pirate Stadium, in Rockport, Tx, this Wednesday.  At a meet in Bay City the group ran a time of 3:54.09, which was their fasted of the year at that time.  Since then, West Oso’s 4×400 ran a 3:43 in Beeville (9 seconds faster) with Thomas Mozzell turning in the fastest split.  Then in the district meet, the team ran a time of 3:40.09 with a great starting leg by JAmes, the only senior.  James has been the track team’s leader from the beginning.  He attributes the success to his teammates unique differences they bring to the table.

“Terrell is a hard worker, very serious about his objective of winning.  Thomas is very competitive with his brother.  Also very similar to Terrell and easily coachable.  AJ is really valuable, you always need a funny guy by your side. AJ is a dog when it comes to running, he doesn’t like anyone to beat him. Even though Rayshawn is an alternate he’s a big part of the team. He keeps everyone in check, always hyping us up and pushing us to our best 400 times.  It was our fastest split time with me coming off and injury. I can’t take all the credit of this team, we all owe it to the coaches for pushing and grinding everyday with us,” said James
